Your account

AnalyticsTrend keeps three things apart:

  • A login is you: an email address and a password.
  • An account is who owns the data: a company, a team, or just you. It has projects and members.
  • A project is one thing you measure: a website or a browser extension. It belongs to one account.

One login can belong to several accounts, with a different role in each. The freelance developer who instruments three clients' extensions has one login and three accounts, and never sees one client's numbers while working in another's.

Signing up

Anyone can sign up on analyticstrend.com. You choose an email address, a password of at least 12 characters, and a name for your first account. You become that account's admin.

A confirmation email follows. Until you open its link and choose Confirm, you can use everything except inviting people. If it does not arrive, the dashboard offers to send another: two more in a day, three counting the first.

Someone invited to an existing account signs up through the invitation link, which creates their login as they join. A confirmation email follows for them too, because whoever sent the invitation also saw the link.

Signing in and out

A session lasts 24 hours.

If you forget your password, choose Forgot password on the sign-in page. The email holds a link that works once, for an hour. At most three links are sent to one address in an hour, and the page answers the same way whether or not the address has a login, so it cannot be used to find out who does.

Setting a new password this way signs out every session that signed in with the old one, which also makes it the way to cut off a laptop you have lost.

Working in several accounts

The account you are working in is named at the top of the sidebar. Choose it to switch to another one, or to create a new account. An account with a verified email domain is marked Organization there; see organizations and domains.

A new account starts empty, with you as its admin. On an install where signup is by invite code, creating one needs a code too.

A link to a project opens in that project's account, so a link a colleague sends you works even if you were working in another account, as long as you are a member of theirs.

Email notifications

Two emails can bring news about your projects to you, each chosen by you for each account you belong to, on Account → Notifications:

  • The weekly report. A short summary of every project in the account, on Monday mornings in the account's time zone: visitors or users against the week before, events and the top three, installs and uninstalls for an extension, top sources for a website, and a link to each project. It is off until you turn it on, and the projects page offers it.
  • The no-events alert. An email when a project that was receiving events stops for 24 hours, which usually means a release broke sending, and another when events arrive again. It is on for admins and members with the Write role, and off for readers, until you choose.

Both go only to a confirmed address, and contain counts and project names, nothing about the people your projects measure. Every one has a link that turns that email off for that account, without signing in, and mail apps that show their own Unsubscribe button use the same link.

Renaming, leaving and deleting

These live under Account → General.

  • Rename the account. Admin only. Members see the new name at once.
  • Leave the account. Anyone can, except the last admin, who has to make someone else an admin first. An account never goes without one.
  • Delete the account. Admin only, and you type its name to confirm. Every project goes with it, with all of their events and history. Members keep their logins and their other accounts. This cannot be undone.

What AnalyticsTrend keeps about you

Your email address, a hash of your password, and which accounts you belong to. Nothing about the people your projects measure identifies them; see what it collects.
